    Personal profile

    About

Dr. Lonneman holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Madonna University.  He has taught courses in Epidemiology and Population Health, Managing and Advocating for Vulnerable Patients, and Evidence-Based Population-Focused Primary Health Care Nursing, as well as other health and nursing related courses.  He has also received no fewer than five awards for his justice/inclusion work.
Bill chose to come to Western’s RN-to-BSN Program in January 2017 as a visiting professor, at the invitation of then-Dean Rios.  Subsequently he was hired into a tenure-track position beginning in September, 2017.  Prior to this appointment, Bill had been on the faculty at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati for ten years.  His 35 years as a nurse include five years in hospice and 11 years as a Family Nurse Practitioner.  Dr. Lonneman’s research interests include: community-based health education, particularly in vulnerable populations; andragogy for developing cultural competence in nursing students; and social justice approaches to reduce health disparities.
He and his wife, Julie, are happy to be nearer one of their daughters, who lives in Seattle, but also cherish their time in Cincinnati with their older daughter, her spouse, and their first granddaughter.  The well-designed nursing program, the vibrancy of Western, and the beauty of the PNW also drew them to our community.  They have enjoyed hiking the countryside, watching Bellingham Bells baseball, riding Amtrak, discovering Vancouver and BC, sampling local beers and arts, and many, many beautiful sunsets over the bay.
