    John Richardson's research areas have been in the historical origins of common schooling in the American states, and particularly in the institutional expansion of special education, published in Common, Delinquent, and Special. He is currently engaged in a study of the institutional career of intelligence, a comparative study of the formalization of national systems of education, and research on the IWW and labor conflicts from 1905 to 1919.
