    About

    Derek Moscato is Professor in the Department of Journalism at Western Washington University, and a research associate with WWU's Border Policy Research Institute, Salish Sea Institute, and Center for Canadian-American Studies. Moscato's research focuses on the intersection of persuasion, global media, and environmental communication. He completed his PhD at the University of Oregon, where he examined environmental activism and global resources extraction issues through the lenses of media and advocacy. 
     
    He currently teaches public relations and mass media classes at Western. Previously, he taught at Oregon's School of Journalism and Communication and Douglas College's Professional Writing Program. His professional experience includes senior public relations roles with Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia, and the BC Lung Association; and editorial contributor roles with Vancouver Metro, The Province, TheStreet, BC Business, and the South China Morning Post.
